The updated rankings show a one-step improvement from their previous standing at the end of 2025. While the change is marginal, it reflects a team that is gradually finding stability as it prepares for major competitions ahead.

Across Africa, Nigeria continue to set the pace. South Africa trail behind in 58th position, with Ghana and Morocco placed just below them, while Zambia also remain among the continent’s top-performing sides.

Globally, Spain still sit at the summit of women’s football, with the United States, England, Germany, and Japan completing the top five.

Nigeria’s slight rise comes on the back of recent friendly matches, which contributed additional ranking points. However, the team’s current total still suggests there is room for improvement as they aim to compete more strongly on the global stage.

Attention now shifts to the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2026. The Super Falcons have been drawn alongside Egypt, Malawi, and Zambia in what promises to be a competitive group.

Beyond simply advancing, Nigeria will be targeting a deep run in the tournament. A place in the semifinals would secure qualification for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup, while the team will also be determined to defend their status as African champions.

With their history of success on the continent, expectations remain high as the Super Falcons continue their preparations.
