Boboye, the technical adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League side Bendel Insurance, will take charge of Edo Queens on an interim basis.

The former Nigeria international will stand in for the club’s substantive head coach, Moses Aduku, who is currently away on national duty with Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team.

Boboye will bring his experience from the Nigerian top flight to an Edo Queens side looking to secure another appearance at the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens have been drawn in Group B alongside ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Ampem Darkoa FC of Ghana and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.

The Benin City-based club have established themselves as one of the leading teams in Nigerian women’s football in recent years. Their rise was highlighted by their success in the 2024 WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament, where they emerged as champions and secured a place at the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Edo Queens went on to make their mark on the continental stage, reaching the semi-finals of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League before finishing fourth.

The club have since retained their position at the top of the Nigerian game, returning to the WAFU B competition as Nigeria’s champions.

Their latest campaign provides another opportunity to progress beyond the regional level.

The winner of the WAFU B competition in Burkina Faso will secure qualification for the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League later in the year.

For Edo Queens, the objective is therefore familiar, win the regional title and return to Africa’s premier women’s club competition.
