Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been left out of the CAF Team of the Tournament for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, bringing another disappointing chapter to the holders’ campaign in Morocco, Trybal News reports.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled its official 4-3-3 Team of the Tournament on Friday, with champions Cameroon dominating the selection with four players.

Goalkeeper Michaely Bihina was selected between the posts, while Myriam Nyadjou was named in defence. Midfielder Monique Ngock and forward Marie Ngah completed Cameroon’s representation.

The selection further underlines Cameroon’s remarkable tournament, having secured their first-ever WAFCON title after defeating Malawi 3-0 in the final. Bihina was named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper, while Ngock was voted Player of the Tournament and Nyadjou won the Best Young Player award.

Runners-up Malawi also had two players in the XI, with sisters Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga rewarded for their outstanding performances. Temwa finished the tournament as the leading scorer with five goals and two assists.

Hosts Morocco contributed two players in Nouhaila Benzina and Hanane Ait El Haj, while Algeria, who finished third after recording their best-ever WAFCON performance, also had two representatives in Inès Belloumou and Marine Dafeur.

Zambia’s Barbra Banda completed the line-up.

For Nigeria, the omission caps a tournament to forget.

The Super Falcons, who entered Morocco as defending champions and 10-time African champions, were eliminated in the quarter-finals after a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon. It was the first time Nigeria failed to reach the semi-finals of the WAFCON in the modern tournament era.

The fact that no Nigerian player made CAF’s final XI adds another layer to what was a historic disappointment for the Super Falcons, while Cameroon’s dominance of the selection reflects the transformation of the tournament champions from perennial contenders into continental champions.
