The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced the Black Queens provisional squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) as preparations intensify ahead of the continental tournament in Morocco, Trybal News reports.
Head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has named a squad that blends experienced internationals with emerging talents, with the Black Queens set to begin their final phase of preparations before the announcement of the final squad for the competition.
The provisional list reflects Ghana’s intent to assemble a competitive side capable of challenging for honours at Africa’s premier women’s football tournament. The technical crew will use the pre-tournament camp to assess the players before trimming the squad ahead of the championship.
Among the notable names included are captain Portia Boakye, midfielder Grace Asantewaa, forward Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, Jennifer Cudjoe and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, alongside several home-based players who impressed during the domestic season.
Ghana will head into WAFCON 2026 hoping to build on recent progress under Björkegren as they seek to establish themselves among the continent’s leading women’s national teams.
The Black Queens have been drawn in Group D alongside Cameroon, Mali and Cape Verde, with the group expected to provide a stern test in their quest to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
The provisional squad will now report to camp before the coaching staff announces the final list for the tournament, with competition for places expected to be keen as Ghana targets a strong outing in Morocco.
