Super Falcons forward Rinsola Babajide says the opportunity to qualify for the FIFA Women’s World Cup will provide extra motivation for teams competing at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, Trybal News reports.
The continental tournament, scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 16, will feature 16 teams for the first time, expanding from the previous 12-team format. Alongside the race for the African title, participating nations will also battle for places at the next FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Babajide, who recently won the Italian Serie A Femminile title with AS Roma, believes the expanded competition will make the tournament even more competitive, although Nigeria’s objective remains unchanged.
According to the winger, the Super Falcons are fully focused on defending their continental crown and are determined to maintain their dominance in African women’s football.
She explained that regardless of whether the tournament is solely about winning the title or also offers World Cup qualification, the expectations within the Nigerian squad remain the same.
The pressure comes from ourselves because we know the standards we have set. As defending champions, our responsibility is to retain the trophy,” Babajide said.
Reflecting on her football journey, the 27-year-old credited both England and Nigeria for shaping her career. She said her formative years in England helped develop her technical ability, while representing Nigeria has strengthened her resilience and professionalism.
Babajide added that the Super Falcons understand what it takes to succeed on the continental stage and are committed to giving everything in Morocco as they pursue another WAFCON title and a place at the World Cup.
Nigeria heads into the tournament as defending champions and one of the favourites to lift the trophy once again.
