Ghana has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2027 edition of the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, marking the competition’s return to West Africa and ending a 28-year wait since the country last staged the tournament in 1999.

The hosting rights underline Ghana’s long-standing reputation as a key force in youth football development across the continent, with the tournament expected to showcase Africa’s next generation of stars.

The U-20 Africa Cup of Nations remains one of the Confederation of African Football’s flagship developmental competitions, serving as a qualification pathway to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

While the 2027 senior Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to take place across East Africa in June and July, official dates for the U-20 tournament in Ghana have yet to be announced.

Nigeria U-20 remains the most successful side in the history of the competition, with seven titles to their name, highlighting the strong pedigree of West African nations in the tournament.

Since 2021, the competition has featured an expanded 12-team format, reflecting CAF’s efforts to increase competitiveness and provide more opportunities for emerging talents across the continent.

With Ghana set to host in 2027, expectations are already building for a tournament that will highlight Africa’s brightest young prospects while reinforcing the country’s status as a major hub for football development in the region.
