Super Eagles forward Femi Azeez has added another major milestone to his breakthrough year after being named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year, Trybal News reports.

The 25-year-old was recognised at the 53rd annual Professional Footballers’ Association Awards at Manchester Opera House on Tuesday after an impressive 2025/26 campaign with Millwall.

Azeez was one of the standout attacking players in the Championship last season, recording 11 goals and seven assists as Millwall finished third and secured a place in the promotion play-offs.

The Lions’ promotion bid eventually came to an end in the semi-finals against Hull City, but Azeez’s individual performances continued to attract attention.

His selection in the PFA XI represents one of the strongest acknowledgements of his campaign, with the awards voted for by fellow professional footballers.

Azeez was selected alongside Coventry City goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, Milan van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Jack Rudoni, Matt Grimes and Haji Wright. Millwall teammate Tristan Crama also made the side, while Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Hayden Hackney and Zan Vipotnik completed the team.

The award caps a remarkable period of progress for Azeez, who has also made his breakthrough at international level.

After choosing to represent Nigeria, the forward received his first senior invitation to the Super Eagles and made an immediate impression on his debut against Zimbabwe in the Unity Cup, scoring twice to announce himself on the international stage.

His performances have also increased interest in his future at club level, with several clubs reportedly monitoring the winger as his profile continues to rise.

Azeez remains under contract with Millwall until 2028, placing the Championship club in a strong negotiating position should interest in the player develop into concrete offers.

His start to the new campaign has been disrupted by a hamstring injury suffered against Bristol City, but Millwall have made an encouraging opening to the season, recording victories over Bristol City and Norwich City after beginning their campaign with an EFL Cup win against Queens Park Rangers.

For Azeez, the PFA recognition provides another significant marker of his development.

Within the space of a year, he has established himself as a key Championship performer, earned his first senior Nigeria call-up and made an instant impact for the Super Eagles.

The latest honour now places his name among the division’s recognised elite and adds further momentum to what has been a defining period in his career.
