Cesc Fabregas has been named Serie A Coach of the Year for the 2025/2026 season after leading Como to a historic fourth place finish and their first ever qualification for the Champions League.
The former Arsenal and Barcelona midfielder received the prestigious award at the Gran Gala del Calcio AIC, which recognises the outstanding figures in Italian football. The honour further highlights Fabregas rapid rise as one of Europe’s most exciting young coaches.
Fabregas has transformed Como since taking full control of the team. His tactical ideas and strong management have helped the club move from lower league expectations to a place among Italy’s top sides.
The Spaniard ended his playing career with Como in Serie B in the summer of 2023. He then played an important role as interim coach, helping the club secure promotion before taking the permanent job in the summer of 2024.
His first full season brought immediate progress. Como finished 10th in Serie A during the 2024 25 campaign, giving Fabregas a strong foundation to build on.
Fabregas takes Como to the Champions League
Como went even further last season. The Lombardy club secured fourth place and earned a historic Champions League spot, upsetting the traditional hierarchy of Italian football in the process.
Fabregas played a central role in that remarkable rise. His team combined an ambitious style with disciplined performances, allowing Como to compete with clubs that have far greater experience at the top level.
The award at the Gran Gala del Calcio AIC now recognises that work. It also strengthens Fabregas’ reputation as a coach capable of turning an ambitious project into a serious force in Serie A.
Como have also carried their momentum into the new campaign. Fabregas side opened the season with a hard fought 1-1 draw away to Udinese.
They followed that result with an impressive 2-1 victory over Napoli. The win provided another clear sign that Como can compete with established Italian heavyweights.
For Fabregas, the challenge now is to maintain that progress. With Champions League football ahead and Como continuing to improve domestically, the award marks another major milestone in the young coach’s rapidly developing career.
