Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has officially returned to Bendel Insurance after signing a one year contract with the Nigeria Premier Football League club.

The Benin Arsenal confirmed the goalkeeper’s return, welcoming back a former captain who first made his name at the club. Obasogie now begins another chapter with the Benin based side.

“Back where it all began. Former captain and Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie returns and signs a one-year contract. Welcome home, Amas. The story continues,” the club announced.

Obasogie previously played for Bendel Insurance in 2024 before moving abroad. He later gained experience with clubs in Tanzania and Ethiopia before deciding to return to the NPFL.

His first spell with Bendel Insurance proved important for his career. He played a role in the club’s promotion campaign and featured during their memorable 2023 run.

Those performances helped put Obasogie on the radar of the Super Eagles. He eventually earned a call up to Nigeria and represented the country at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Obasogie returns after Tanzania controversy

Obasogie also faced a difficult period during his time in Tanzania. In March 2026, Singida Black Stars cleared the Nigerian goalkeeper of involvement in match fixing and gambling allegations.

The club lifted his three month suspension after completing an internal investigation. The investigation concluded that his controversial mistakes represented ordinary technical errors rather than deliberate manipulation.

Singida Black Stars had initially suspended Obasogie following complaints from fans and other stakeholders. Those complaints focused on errors during a CAF Confederation Cup match against Flambeau du Centre.

The concerns also involved league matches against Pamba Jiji FC and Namungo. However, the subsequent investigation cleared the goalkeeper of wrongdoing.

Now, Obasogie returns to Bendel Insurance with valuable experience from his spells outside Nigeria. His return also gives the NPFL club an experienced goalkeeper with previous Super Eagles exposure.

For Bendel Insurance, bringing back their former captain represents both a reunion and a significant squad addition. Obasogie will now look to rediscover his best form and help the Benin Arsenal achieve their targets in the new season.
