The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday Two fixture between Sporting Lagos and Ikorodu City has been postponed and rescheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Trybal News reports.

The Lagos derby was originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 6, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, but will now be played at a later date following the postponement.

According to reports, the decision was necessitated by planned political events scheduled to take place at the venue.

The postponement comes as a setback for both sides, who had been looking forward to the derby as an early opportunity to gain momentum and make a statement in the new NPFL season.

Sporting Lagos endured a difficult start to their top-flight return, suffering a 2-0 defeat to Doma United at the Pantami Stadium last weekend.

Ikorodu City, meanwhile, enjoyed a positive opening-day result, defeating NPFL newcomers Ranchers Bees 3-1.

The September 30 encounter is now expected to provide both teams with another opportunity to strengthen their campaigns, with local bragging rights also at stake in what promises to be an eagerly anticipated Lagos derby.
