Paris Saint Germain Féminine have confirmed that Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade will undergo surgery after fracturing her fibula while playing for Nigeria.
The 26 year old forward suffered the injury during Nigeria’s second leg clash against Comoros in the second qualifying round of the 2028 Olympic Games.
The match took place at the Remo Stars Sports Complex in Ikenne. Ajibade left the pitch in the 23rd minute and Folashade Ijamilusi came on as her replacement.
Despite losing their captain to injury, Nigeria went on to secure a convincing 5 0 victory over Comoros.
PSG confirmed the extent of Ajibade’s injury in a statement published on the club’s official website. The French side said one of its leading surgeons would perform the operation.
“Rasheedat Ajibade, who was injured during Nigeria’s most recent national team match against Comoros, has suffered a fibula fracture,” the statement read.
“Our forward will undergo surgery soon, performed by one of the Club’s leading surgeons, before beginning her rehabilitation with the Paris Saint-Germain medical team.”
Rasheedat Ajibade to miss PSG clash against Lyon
Ajibade will begin her rehabilitation under the supervision of PSG’s medical staff after surgery. The club has yet to confirm how long she will remain out or when she could return to action.
Her injury means she will miss a crucial league fixture this weekend. PSG will host Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday, 17 October, at 21:05 in Matchday 5 of the Arkema Première Ligue.
The Parisian side remain unbeaten in the league this season and will approach the contest with confidence. They recently recorded a 5-0 victory over OH Leuven in the UEFA Women’s Champions League before beating Fleury 3-1.
However, facing Lyon will present a major test for PSG. The club will need a strong team performance and support from their fans to maintain their unbeaten run.
Ajibade’s absence will be a setback for the French side as they prepare for the top of the table encounter. Meanwhile, the Super Falcons captain will focus on surgery and recovery before making her return to competitive football.
