The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has reaffirmed that the 2025/26 season will conclude as scheduled on May 24, with organizers maintaining a steady calendar despite a short break this weekend for the NFF President Federation Cup fixtures.

League action pauses temporarily to accommodate the cup competition, a move that officials say was carefully planned from the beginning of the campaign to avoid the scheduling disruptions that affected previous seasons. Clubs will resume league duties with Matchday 36 and 37 fixtures set for May 3 and May 10 respectively, before another Federation Cup window on May 16 and 17.

Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi explained that the coordination between the league body and the Nigeria Football Federation has been key to keeping the season on track.

”We synergised with the NFF Competitions Department at the start of the season to create windows for the Federation Cup. It has been in effect since January and we are running our calender as designed,” Owumi told NPFL Media.

”We have been intentional to maintain fixture fidelity and it took a lot of planning and cooperation from the clubs to achieve this”, declared Owumi.

With the title race, continental qualification spots and relegation battles still wide open, the final stretch of the season is expected to deliver intense competition, all building toward a decisive final round of matches on Sunday, May 24.
