Head Coach Abdu Maikaba has invited 35 players to camp as Nigeria’s U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, begin preparations for the forthcoming WAFU B U20 Championship scheduled to hold in Côte d’Ivoire in July.
The invitation marks the first major assignment for Maikaba since taking charge of the seven-time African champions, with the technical crew assembling a blend of home-based and foreign-based talents ahead of the regional competition.
According to the list released by the team’s handlers, the squad consists of three goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 11 midfielders, and 11 forwards drawn from clubs across Nigeria and Europe.
Among the invited players are Croatia-based goalkeeper Abubakar Rufai of NK Istra 1961, FC Alavés forward Imrana Mohammed from Spain, and Peter Pam Davou, who currently plays for Vitkovice in the Czech Republic.
Several Nigeria Premier Football League sides are also well represented in the squad, including Sporting Lagos, Warri Wolves, Akwa United, Kano Pillars, and Katsina United.
All invited players are expected to report to camp in Abuja on Saturday, May 16, as preparations intensify for the tournament.
