Lamine Camara will remain at AS Monaco after his proposed £47.1m transfer to Chelsea collapsed shortly after the transfer deadline, Trybal News reports.
The Senegal international had already completed his medical with Chelsea. However, the deal fell through after the 23:00 BST deadline, ending the Blues’ late attempt to strengthen their midfield.
Chelsea had made two bids for Lamine Camara, but Monaco rejected both offers. The Ligue 1 club later lowered its asking price when Folarin Balogun’s proposed move to Everton came under renewed doubt.
Chelsea Wanted Midfield Reinforcement
Chelsea targeted Lamine Camara as they looked to add another midfielder to their squad. The move became a priority with Enzo Fernandez closing in on a joint British transfer record £125m transfer to Manchester City.
The London club also held talks with Roma midfielder Manu Kone. They considered another unnamed Premier League option as they explored alternatives before the deadline.
Chelsea wanted to finish the transfer window with a stronger squad despite potentially losing Fernandez to a direct rival. However, the late move for Camara did not reach completion.
The club still believes it has improved its squad this summer. Chelsea signed Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for a club record £117m, while Maxence Lacroix arrived from Crystal Palace.
The Blues also completed a late deal for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. In addition, they recruited strikers Emmanuel Emegha and Danny Welbeck, winger Geovany Quenda, midfielders Jordan Henderson and Valentin Barco, and full backs Marco Palestra and Pep Chavarria.
Chelsea have also enjoyed a strong start under Alonso. They have won all three matches this season, beating Fulham and Brighton in the Premier League.
They also reached the third round of the Carabao Cup after defeating Luton Town. Despite those additions, Chelsea could not complete their move for Lamine Camara.
The 22-year-old Senegal midfielder will now continue his career with Monaco. He made 31 appearances for the French club across all competitions during the 2025/26 season.
Camara featured 24 times in Ligue 1. He also made six appearances in the UEFA Champions League and one appearance in the Coupe de France.
His decision to remain at Monaco means the club keeps an important midfield option after the summer transfer window closed. Chelsea, meanwhile, will have to work with their existing midfield choices for the rest of the campaign.
