Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has parted ways with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by mutual agreement following the Black Stars difficult start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, Trybal News reports.
The GFA confirmed that both parties agreed to terminate Queiroz’s service agreement after discussions held in a spirit of mutual respect.
The Portuguese coach leaves after Ghana suffered consecutive defeats in Group C, first losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before a dramatic 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
Ghana appeared to be in control against The Gambia after goals from Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan gave the Black Stars a 2-0 advantage. However, the visitors responded with four unanswered goals to complete a remarkable comeback.
Queiroz accepted responsibility for the defeat and apologised to Ghana supporters after the match, while indicating that the decision regarding his future would rest with the GFA board.
His departure comes less than a month after the GFA reappointed him to lead the Black Stars through the 2027 AFCON qualifying campaign.
After two matches, Ghana have no points in Group C, leaving the four-time African champions facing an early challenge in their qualification campaign.
Queiroz thanked the GFA, his technical staff, the Black Stars players and supporters for their support during his time in charge.
The GFA will now begin the process of determining the next step for the Black Stars as the team seeks to revive its qualification hopes.
