Galatasaray boosted their title charge with a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Genclerbirligi, securing all three points despite the absence of Victor Osimhen from the starting line-up.
The Nigerian striker, who recently returned from injury and was included in the matchday squad, began the game on the bench after undergoing surgery on his arm following a fracture sustained against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League.
His absence in recent weeks had coincided with a dip in form for Galatasaray, who had managed just one win in their previous three matches.
The visitors, however, made a strong start and wasted no time asserting themselves. Mauro Icardi opened the scoring just two minutes into the match, giving Galatasaray an early advantage and setting the tone for the contest.
They doubled their lead in the 35th minute when Yunus Akgun found the back of the net before the break, putting the league leaders firmly in control heading into half-time.
Genclerbirligi responded after the restart, pulling a goal back to spark hopes of a comeback, but Galatasaray remained composed under pressure and held on to secure the win.
The result strengthens Galatasaray’s position at the top of the table with 71 points, four clear of rivals Fenerbahce, as the title race enters its final stretch with four games remaining.
Victor Osimhen, who has now missed four matches due to injury, could yet play a decisive role before the end of the season as Galatasaray push to seal the league crown.
