Nigeria’s Flamingos have arrived in Ikenne as preparations intensify ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying clash against Guinea.

The team, led by head coach Akeem Busari, had earlier opened camp in Abuja last month where intensive training sessions and friendly matches were held to sharpen the squad before the important qualifier.

Strong momentum has already been built by the young Nigerian side after impressive performances were recorded during their preparation games in the Federal Capital Territory. Five friendly matches were played, with four victories secured and one draw recorded.

Confidence within the squad has also been boosted by the team’s attacking form, as 28 goals were scored across those matches while only three goals were conceded. The performances have further strengthened belief that the Flamingos are ready for another successful qualification campaign.

Attention has now shifted fully to the first leg encounter against Guinea, which will be played in Conakry on Sunday, 24 May. The Nigerian side will be hoping to secure a positive away result before returning home for the decisive second leg.

The reverse fixture has been scheduled for Saturday, 30 May at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, where the Flamingos are expected to enjoy strong home support as they push for qualification.

Nigeria’s U17 women’s team has continued to establish itself as one of the strongest sides on the African continent over the years. Since the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup competition began in 2008, the Flamingos have qualified for the tournament eight times.

Appearances were made in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2022, 2024 and 2025, with the team missing only the 2018 edition. Their consistency in African qualifiers has made them one of the continent’s most dominant youth teams.

This year’s FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup will be hosted by Morocco from 17 October to 7 November 2026, and the Flamingos will be determined to continue their proud qualification record with another successful campaign.
