Nigerian striker Cyriel Dessers was on target as Panathinaikos claimed a 2-1 win over Bosnian side Borac Banja Luka in the UEFA Conference League, Trybal News reports.

Dessers broke the deadlock from the penalty spot after being fouled inside the area, with VAR intervention confirming the decision. The forward kept his composure to send goalkeeper Mladen Jurkas the wrong way and register his first goal in the competition’s main phase.
Panathinaikos strengthened their advantage after the break through Zambian midfielder Kings Kangwa, putting the Greek side in a comfortable position. However, Borac Banja Luka fought back, with Serbian midfielder Miloš Jojić finding the net to set up a tense finish.
The victory represents another positive step for Dessers, who had to overcome fitness problems earlier in the campaign. The former Rangers forward was instrumental in Panathinaikos’ qualifying run, scoring three goals across three matches following his return from injury to help the club reach the main phase of the competition.
Although his contribution against Borac was limited in possession, with 17 touches and eight passes attempted, seven of which found their target, Dessers made his opportunity count by converting from the spot.
He also contested five ground duels, winning two, and one aerial duel, which he won.
Having finally opened his Conference League account, Dessers will be looking to build on the goal and regain consistent form as Panathinaikos continue their European campaign.
