Nigeria’s Flying Eagles suffered another painful defeat to Burkina Faso, losing 4-1 in the final of the 2026 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship and missing out on qualification for the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Trybal News reports.

The Young Stallions produced a devastating opening 15 minutes at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire, scoring three times to put Nigeria on the back foot almost immediately.
Nigeria had entered the final seeking revenge after Burkina Faso defeated them 2-0 in the group stage. However, the Young Stallions once again proved too strong, exposing weaknesses in the Nigerian defence and taking control of the contest before the Flying Eagles could settle.

Coach Abdu Maikaba’s side attempted to respond but struggled to create a meaningful comeback, with Burkina Faso maintaining their advantage and eventually completing a convincing 4-1 victory.
The defeat carries significant consequences for Nigeria. The WAFU Zone B final also served as a qualification decider for the 2027 U-20 AFCON, with the winner securing the region’s place at the continental tournament alongside hosts Ghana.
Nigeria had reached the final after edging Côte d’Ivoire in a dramatic semi-final, drawing 2-2 before prevailing 4-3 on penalties.
Burkina Faso, meanwhile, went through the tournament unbeaten and defeated Niger 2-0 in their semi-final before producing another commanding display against Nigeria.
The defeat brings a disappointing end to Nigeria’s 2026 WAFU Zone B campaign and rules them out of the 2027 U-20 AFCON. Burkina Faso, meanwhile, leave Yamoussoukro as WAFU Zone B champions with their place at next year’s continental tournament secured.
