Cape Verde head coach Bubista has been appointed as the new manager of Moroccan club RS Berkane after guiding the World Cup debutants to a memorable campaign on the global stage.
RS Berkane confirmed on Tuesday that Pedro Brito, popularly known as Bubista, has signed a two year contract with the club. He replaces Moïne Chaâbani, who has returned to his native Tunisia to continue his coaching career.
The Cape Verde Football Federation also confirmed Bubista’s departure and paid tribute to the coach for his achievements with the national team.
In a message shared on its social media platforms, the federation thanked him for his “dedication, professionalism, and contribution” during his time in charge of the Blue Sharks.
Bubista leaves after leading Cape Verde through one of the finest periods in the country’s football history. The island nation made an outstanding impression at their first FIFA World Cup, exceeding expectations with a series of impressive performances.
Cape Verde opened their campaign by holding eventual champions Spain to a goalless draw, with veteran goalkeeper Vozinha producing a superb display at the age of 40. They followed that result with draws against Uruguay and Saudi Arabia to finish second in their group and secure a place in the Round of 32.
Their remarkable World Cup journey ended in a thrilling 3-2 defeat to Argentina after extra time. Although Cape Verde bowed out of the competition, they earned widespread praise for their fearless performances.
One of the tournament’s standout moments came from Sidny Lopes Cabral, whose stunning strike against Argentina was voted the best goal of the World Cup.
Bubista now takes over at one of Africa’s leading clubs. RS Berkane won the CAF Confederation Cup in 2025 and continue to establish themselves as one of the continent’s strongest sides.
The Moroccan club is also closely associated with Fouzi Lekjaa, the influential Moroccan football administrator and a key figure in African football, who maintains a strong relationship with FIFA president Gianni Infantino.
After transforming Cape Verde into one of Africa’s rising football nations and leading them to an unforgettable World Cup debut, Bubista now begins a new chapter as he looks to build on RS Berkane’s recent domestic and continental success.
