Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has alleged that staff at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca stole cash from several members of the Nigeria women’s national team as they prepare for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Trybal reports.
Okoronkwo made the claims through a series of posts on her Snapchat account, where she alleged that money was taken from her wallet while the team was staying at the hotel.
The 29-year-old initially claimed that $500 had gone missing before later revealing that she had recounted her cash and discovered a total of $700 had been stolen.
“This hotel Marriott in Casablanca just stole about a lot of people’s money from their wallet!” Okoronkwo wrote.
“They just stole 500 USD from me!! They stole couple of dollars from my teammate.”
She later corrected the amount, adding: “Guys, I did my calculations wrong. They actually stole $700, not $500 USD.”
Okoronkwo also alleged that the hotel’s cleaning staff carried out the theft while players were away from their rooms.
“The cleaning people stole the money. So they waited while we weren’t in the room to clean and steal the money.
“We started talking to them and they don’t have answers. They also started being disrespectful.”
The forward further claimed that she was not the only player affected, alleging that several of her Super Falcons teammates also had cash stolen from their wallets during the team’s stay in Casablanca.
The Super Falcons have been based in Casablanca since last Monday as they complete preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Justine Madugu’s side boosted their confidence with a 2-1 victory over Tanzania’s Twiga Stars in a friendly on Thursday, with Okoronkwo scoring the winning goal.
Nigeria, the 10 time African champions, will begin the defence of their WAFCON title against tournament debutants Malawi at the Al Madina Stadium in Rabat on Tuesday. No official response has yet been issued by the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca regarding the allegations.
