A Magistrate Court in Sagamu has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the crash that carried former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, to March 17, 2026.

Kayode appeared before the court to answer charges related to reckless driving. During proceedings, counsel for the Department of Public Prosecution, R D Kadiri, informed the court that more time was needed to gather evidence and ensure the availability of witnesses.

Kadiri explained that although the police had forwarded the case file to the Ogun State DPP, further preparation was required before the trial could properly begin. Magistrate Olufunilayo Somefun granted the request and adjourned the matter to March 17, adding to previous delays in the case.

The matter had earlier been postponed on January 20 after police counsel Richard Nigiwe requested time to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Ogun State attorney general through the DPP for legal advice. Defence counsel Olalekan Abiodun opposed the application, arguing that three witnesses were already present in court and the trial should proceed. Despite the objection, the magistrate ruled in favour of the adjournment and directed that the case file be duplicated and sent for legal review.

The case is linked to a fatal accident that occurred on December 29, 2025, when the SUV transporting Anthony Joshua and three associates crashed into a stationary truck near the Sinoma area of Sagamu. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was later discharged from Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi on December 31, 2025.

Tragically, two of his associates, personal trainer Kevin Latif Ayodele and long time friend and conditioning coach Sina Ghami, died as a result of the crash.

The continuation of the trial now depends on the prosecution’s readiness to present its evidence when the case resumes on March 17.
