Mamelodi Sundowns sealed their place in the CAF Champions League final for the second straight season with a controlled 1-0 victory over Esperance de Tunis at Loftus Versfeld, completing a 2-0 aggregate triumph.

Holding a narrow first-leg advantage from Tunisia, Mamelodi Sundowns approached the return fixture with caution but gradually grew into the contest. Their first real opening came in the 20th minute when Tashreeq Matthews slipped a pass through to Brayan Leon, whose effort from the left side of the box was pushed away by goalkeeper Bechir Ben Said.

The breakthrough arrived just past the half-hour mark after Sundowns were awarded a penalty. Ben Said, attempting to deal with a loose ball from a throw-in, collided with Leon inside the area, leaving the referee with a straightforward decision. Leon stepped up to take the spot kick, saw his initial effort saved, but reacted quickest to convert the rebound and give the hosts a deserved lead on the day and a two-goal cushion overall.

Esperance nearly found a response before the break when Yan Sasse delivered a dangerous cross that deflected off Florian Danho and crashed against the crossbar, offering a brief moment of hope for the visitors.

In the second half, Sundowns focused on controlling possession and managing the tempo, while still posing a threat going forward. In the 75th minute, Marcelo Allende and Jayden Adams both tested Ben Said with long-range efforts, forcing the goalkeeper into quick successive saves.

Defensively, Mamelodi Sundowns were solid throughout, limiting Esperance to very few clear chances, with Ronwen Williams largely untroubled in goal. The result also marked a rare setback for the Tunisian side, who had not lost both legs of a knockout tie in the competition for over three years.

For Sundowns, last crowned African champions in 2016, the victory represents another major step in their pursuit of a second continental title. They will now face FAR Rabat in the final, with the two-legged showdown set to take place in May.
