The Super Falcons will take on the Indomitable Lionesses in two international friendlies as part of their build-up to the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The matches are scheduled to hold in Yaounde, Cameroon, during the FIFA Women’s International Window from February 24 to March 7, 2026. Both teams will first meet on Saturday, February 28, before squaring off again on Tuesday, March 3.
The upcoming encounters revive a familiar rivalry between the African heavyweights. The last time both sides met in a friendly ahead of the continental tournament hosted by Morocco, Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.
General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mohammed Sanusi, confirmed that all arrangements have been finalized in collaboration with Cameroon’s football authorities. He noted that the friendlies are part of efforts to adequately prepare the team to defend their continental crown and secure qualification for the next Women’s World Cup.
On his part, Isaac Mandong of the FECAFOOT expressed delight at hosting the Nigerian side, describing the fixtures as an opportunity to further strengthen the relationship between both federations.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has fixed the 13th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to run from March 17 to April 3 in Morocco, with the four semi-finalists earning automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Nigeria head into the tournament as defending champions after lifting a record 10th title last summer, overcoming Tunisia women’s national football team, Botswana women’s national football team, Zambia women’s national football team, South Africa women’s national football team and the host nation on their way to glory.
