A delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation on Thursday visited Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi in Asaba, Delta State, to offer condolences ahead of the burial of his father, Mr Sunday Ndidi, scheduled for Friday, February 13, 2026, in Umunede.
The delegation was led by NFF General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi, who presented a formal letter of condolence to the Beşiktaş midfielder on behalf of the Nigerian football community. The visit came as the country’s football authorities rallied around the midfielder during a difficult period for his family.
Dr Sanusi described the death of Ndidi’s father as very sad and noted that the loss was particularly painful as it followed closely after the captain’s commitment and performances for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He assured Ndidi of the federation’s support and prayers as he prepares to lay his father to rest.
Also present during the visit were NFF Executive Committee Member Rt Hon Nse Essien, Chairman of the Delta State Football Association Hon Godwin Adode, NFF Director of Media and Communications Dr Ademola Olajire, and other board members of the Delta State Football Association.
Mr Sunday Ndidi, a retired military officer, died in a road accident in Delta State. His passing has drawn tributes and messages of sympathy from across the football community.
The NFF, in collaboration with the National Sports Commission, pledged continued support for Ndidi and his family throughout the mourning period. His Turkish club, Beşiktaş, also conveyed its condolences, expressing sadness over the loss and standing in solidarity with the midfielder and his loved ones.
The federation concluded its visit by offering prayers for strength and comfort for Ndidi, his siblings and the entire family as they prepare for the final rites in honour of their late patriarch.
