Kaduna Plans Major Rebuild of Ahmadu Bello Stadium to FIFA Standards

The Kaduna State Government has unveiled plans to carry out a comprehensive redevelopment of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium as part of efforts to upgrade the historic venue to meet FIFA standards and transform it into a modern sporting facility Trybal News reports.

Governor Uba Sani announced that the project will see the addition of 32,000 new seats, a move that will significantly expand the stadium’s capacity and elevate it to become Nigeria’s second largest stadium behind the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. The redevelopment is aimed at giving the 61 year old facility a complete facelift and aligning it with global requirements for hosting top level sporting events.

The governor explained that the initiative forms part of a wider strategy to modernise sports infrastructure across the state and reposition Kaduna as a leading centre for sports in Northern Nigeria. He added that the upgraded stadium will play a central role in attracting national and international competitions while supporting the growth of sports within the region.

It was also revealed that the rebuilt Ahmadu Bello Stadium will serve as the North West headquarters of the National Institute for Sports, a move expected to strengthen sports development, talent identification and professional training in the zone.

The redevelopment of the iconic venue, which has hosted numerous national and international events over the decades, is projected to boost sports tourism, generate employment opportunities and enhance Kaduna’s ability to host major sporting programmes and competitions in the future.
