Wikki Tourists and Katsina United played out a dramatic 4-4 draw in their Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 25 encounter at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, a match that was completed a day after it was initially abandoned.
The fixture was halted on Sunday following crowd unrest that broke out shortly after Katsina United striker Uche Collins scored his second equaliser to make it 3-3. The incident led to the replacement of the centre referee, while the Chairman of Katsina United sustained a head injury. With 12 minutes of regulation time still to be played, NPFL authorities ordered the remaining minutes to be concluded on Monday.
Wikki Tourists had made a fast start to the contest, opening the scoring in the fifth minute through Mairiga. Katsina United responded in the 20th minute when Collins netted the first of his three goals to draw level. Jubrin restored the hosts’ advantage from the penalty spot in the 27th minute, but Collins struck again in the 35th minute to ensure the sides went into the break locked at 2-2.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Wikki Tourists regaining the lead in the 53rd minute when Ibrahim found the net. Katsina United refused to go away and Collins completed his hat trick in the 62nd minute, making it 3-3 and setting the stage for late drama.
When play resumed on Monday, Wikki Tourists capitalised on a defensive lapse in the 75th minute as a powerful long range strike beat Hamisu Sa’idu to put the hosts ahead for the fourth time. Katsina United, however, showed remarkable resilience and grabbed a late equaliser in the 89th minute after a defensive error resulted in an own goal.
The match eventually ended 4-4, with Collins emerging as the standout performer for Katsina United, while the late own goal ensured the visitors secured a valuable away point. Wikki Tourists remain 16th on the NPFL table with 28 points from 24 matches, while Katsina United sit 10th with 33 points from the same number of games.
