Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare found the back of the net, but it was not enough to prevent Wolverhampton Wanderers from falling to a 3-1 defeat against Chelsea at Molineux on Saturday.

Chelsea took firm control of the encounter early on, with Cole Palmer delivering a sensational first-half hat-trick to put the visitors in command. Despite Wolves’ efforts to respond after the break, the damage had already been done as the Blues cruised to a comfortable Premier League victory.

Arokodare, however, provided a bright spark for the hosts. The Super Eagles forward reacted quickest inside the six-yard box, showing sharp control before swivelling to fire home and reduce the deficit. His strike proved to be only a consolation, as Chelsea managed the closing stages with composure to secure all three points.

The Nigerian international delivered an industrious shift, registering one goal from three attempts while completing 14 passes, nine of them accurate, in a performance that underlined his growing influence in Wolves’ attack.

Palmer’s treble which included two penalties and a clinical finish from open play ultimately defined the contest, extending his remarkable scoring record for the London club.

Although Wolves showed improved energy in the second half, the result leaves them struggling, with defeat piling further pressure on the side as they continue their difficult league campaign.

Arokodare’s goal serves as another positive personal milestone, but attention will quickly turn to helping Wolves rediscover form in their upcoming fixtures.
