Ghana forward Iñaki Williams has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to his four-year spell with the Black Stars, Trybal News reports.
The 32-year-old Athletic Club forward confirmed his decision in a heartfelt message on X, saying he leaves the national team “happy, proud” and at peace knowing he gave everything whenever he wore the Ghana shirt.

Williams, who was born in Bilbao to Ghanaian parents, switched his international allegiance from Spain to Ghana in 2022. He made his Black Stars debut on September 23 that year in a friendly against Brazil and was subsequently selected for Ghana’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
He went on to represent Ghana at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making 28 appearances and scoring twice for the national team.
One of his most memorable moments came during Ghana’s opening 2026 World Cup qualifying match against Madagascar, when Williams scored a dramatic 95th-minute winner to secure victory for the Black Stars.
His final major tournament appearance came at the 2026 World Cup, where he started Ghana’s Round of 32 encounter with Colombia. The Black Stars suffered a 1-0 defeat, bringing their campaign to an end.
In announcing his retirement, Williams reflected on the personal significance of representing Ghana, saying the experience had given him “much more than football” and allowed him to reconnect with his roots and experience the pride of representing his country.
Ghana will always be a part of me. I will continue supporting the Black Stars as one of you, wherever I am,” Williams wrote.
He ended his message with a simple tribute to the country: “Medaase. Always Ghana.”
Williams now steps away from international duty as Ghana enter a new era under returning head coach Carlos Queiroz, with the Black Stars preparing for their next competitive assignments, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
