Brighton & Hove Albion winger Zadok Yohanna has been ruled out of Nigeria’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after suffering an injury that is expected to keep him sidelined until after the September international break, Trybal News reports.
According to RotoWire, Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler confirmed that the 19-year-old is currently unavailable, describing the issue as a “small” injury while stressing the need to manage Yohanna carefully as he adapts to the demands of the Premier League.
The setback is another blow for Yohanna, who was previously forced to withdraw from Nigeria’s squad for the Unity Cup in May because of a hamstring injury.
The youngster has made two appearances for Brighton across all competitions this season, having joined the Premier League club from AIK Stockholm during the summer.
His latest injury means he is set to miss Nigeria’s opening AFCON 2027 qualifiers, with the Super Eagles scheduled to face Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau later this month. He is also expected to miss Nigeria’s friendly against Russia during the October international window.
Yohanna’s absence will come as a disappointment to coach Eric Chelle, who is preparing his squad for the start of Nigeria’s AFCON qualification campaign.
