Sporting Lagos produced a commanding performance to defeat Inter Lagos 3–0 in the first Lagos derby of the 2026/27 EuroMatch Nigeria Premier Football League season at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Trybal News reports.

The Noisy Lagosians made a bright start and were rewarded after just eight minutes when Sodiq Ayoade headed home to put Sporting in front.

Inter Lagos had a chance to level the score in the 21st minute after winning a penalty, but they were unable to convert from the spot.

Sporting remained the more threatening side as the half progressed, with Haruna Hadi coming close to adding a second when his powerful effort struck the crossbar shortly before the interval.

The second half continued in Sporting’s favour, and they eventually doubled their advantage in the 60th minute. Aliyu Baba combined with Victor Samuel before finishing the move to make it 2–0.

Inter Lagos struggled to find a response as Sporting controlled the closing stages of the match.

The visitors then put the result beyond doubt in the 90th minute, with substitute Valentine Ugwu finding the net to complete a convincing 3–0 victory.

The win gives Sporting Lagos their first three points of the season and their first goals since returning to the NPFL.

It also marked the return of a top-flight Lagos derby after more than a decade. The last meeting between two Lagos-based clubs in the NPFL came in July 2016, when MFM FC defeated Ikorodu United 3–1 at the Agege Stadium.

Sporting Lagos will now look to build on the derby victory as their NPFL campaign continues.
