Shooting Stars SC have parted ways with head coach Nurudeen Aweroro ahead of the new Nigeria Premier Football League season, Trybal News reports.
The club confirmed the decision in an official statement, announcing that Aweroro, Team Manager Tammy Tamuno and Assistant Coach Shakiru Lawal have all left their roles with immediate effect.
The club did not disclose specific reasons for the decision. However, sources indicate that lingering issues between Aweroro and some key members of the board contributed to the sudden change.
In a club statement, Shooting Stars said:
“We have reached a mutual agreement with Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro, Team Manager Tammy Tamuno and Assistant Coach Shakiru Lawal to bring their respective contracts with the Club to an end, with immediate effect. The decision follows discussions between the Club and the affected members of the technical team, with both parties agreeing to part ways amicably.
Shooting Stars appreciates Nurudeen Aweroro, Tammy Tamuno and Shakiru Lawal for their commitment, professionalism and contributions to the Club during their respective periods of service. The Club particularly acknowledges their efforts in helping Shooting Stars achieve a third-place finish in the 2025/26 NPFL season and secure a continental ticket. We thank them immensely for their service and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours and continued success in their careers.
In the interim, the other Assistant Coaches have been directed to take charge of the affairs of the Technical Department pending the appointment and announcement of a substantive Head Coach. The Club will communicate further developments in due course.”
Aweroro leaves after historic NPFL campaign
The timing of the decision has added to the surprise surrounding Aweroro’s departure.
Shooting Stars dismissed the coach on the eve of their participation in the Value Jet Cup pre season tournament. The decision also came just 24 hours after the Oluyole Warriors suffered a 3-0 friendly defeat to Ikorodu City.
Aweroro joined Shooting Stars in July 2025 after the club appointed him as their new head coach.
The coach then guided the Ibadan based side to an impressive third place finish in the 2025/26 NPFL season.
That result secured Shooting Stars a place in the CAF Confederation Cup. It also marked their first qualification for the continental competition in 27 years.
The club credited Aweroro, Tamuno and Lawal for their contribution to that achievement in its statement.
For now, Shooting Stars will rely on their remaining assistant coaches to oversee the technical department.
The club plans to appoint and announce a substantive head coach in due course.
Aweroro’s exit therefore leaves Shooting Stars with a major decision to make just before the start of the new NPFL campaign and their return to continental football.
