Nigeria international Raphael Onyedika has completed a permanent move to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt from Belgian champions Club Brugge, signing a six-year contract that will keep him at the German club until June 2031, Trybal News reports.
The 25-year-old midfielder joins Frankfurt after four impressive seasons in Belgium, where he established himself as one of the Jupiler Pro League’s standout defensive midfielders. Since arriving from Danish club FC Midtjylland in 2022, Onyedika developed into a key figure for Club Brugge, helping the club win two Belgian league titles while making 24 UEFA Champions League appearances.
Frankfurt moved decisively to secure the Super Eagles star despite reported interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, identifying him as a priority addition to strengthen their midfield ahead of the new Bundesliga campaign.
Welcoming the Nigerian international, Eintracht Frankfurt board member for sport Markus Krösche described Onyedika as a player capable of making an immediate impact.
Raphael Onyedika has not only impressed us with his physicality and strategic understanding of the game, but above all with his extraordinary consistency. At 25, he still has great potential and is an important building block in terms of the structure of our squad.”
Onyedika leaves Club Brugge having made 183 appearances across all competitions, winning two Belgian Pro League titles and a Belgian Cup while becoming a regular in European competition. His performances also translated onto the international stage, earning him a place in Nigeria’s senior national team.
Since making his Super Eagles debut in 2022, the midfielder has gone on to earn 26 international caps and score three goals, cementing his place as one of Nigeria’s most dependable midfielders.
The move marks another significant milestone in Onyedika’s steady rise through European football. After beginning his professional journey in Denmark, the former FC Ebedei product impressed with FC Midtjylland before taking the next step at Club Brugge, where his consistency, tactical intelligence and ball-winning ability attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.
He now arrives in Frankfurt with expectations of playing a key role in the club’s midfield as they target another strong Bundesliga campaign and a return to the UEFA Champions League.
Onyedika could make his competitive debut later this month when Eintracht Frankfurt face St. Tönis in the first round of the DFB-Pokal before opening their Bundesliga season away to Union Berlin.
