The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dismissed the Super Falcons’ technical crew following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, Trybal News reports.
The federation announced the decision on Monday, stating that members of the technical crew had been asked to step down from their positions with immediate effect.
The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation has asked members of the technical crew of the Super Falcons to step down with immediate effect,” the NFF said in a post on X.
The decision follows a disappointing 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign and Nigeria’s subsequent failure to secure a place at the 2027 World Cup.
The Super Falcons exited WAFCON at the quarter-final stage after a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon, their earliest-ever exit from the competition. The result forced Nigeria into the lengthy playoff route for World Cup qualification.
Their hopes of reaching the tournament were ultimately ended on August 14, when the Falcons suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the continental playoff.
The defeat means Nigeria will miss the Women’s World Cup for the first time since the competition was inaugurated in 1991.
The technical crew had faced growing scrutiny throughout the WAFCON campaign, particularly over player selections and tactical decisions as the nine-time African champions struggled to produce convincing performances.
The decision marks a significant change for a team that had enjoyed continental success less than a year earlier, with the Falcons having secured their 10th WAFCON title under Justine Madugu.
The NFF will now be expected to begin the process of rebuilding the Super Falcons’ technical structure as Nigerian women’s football looks to recover from one of the biggest setbacks in its history.
