The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has invited 40 boxers to participate in the final phase of its open training camp ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, TrybalNews report.
The selected athletes, drawn largely from finalists at the National Boxing Open Trials held in February, include 20 male and 20 female pugilists across all weight categories.

According to the federation, official invitations have been sent to the athletes, coaches, and technical officials. The camp will open on Friday, May 1, with all invitees expected to arrive the same day at the Lt. Gen. Kenneth Minimah (Rtd) Boxing Hall, located within the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. Training sessions will commence on Saturday, May 2.
Chairman of the NBF Technical Committee, Babatunde Laguda, emphasized the federation’s commitment to thorough preparation ahead of the Games.
The NBF board, under the leadership of Hon. Wale Edun, has prioritized early camping for all international competitions. We are taking proactive steps to ensure our athletes are well-prepared for the Commonwealth Games,” Laguda said.
He added that the current phase of camping is critical, as only 10 boxers will be selected from the 40 invited athletes to represent Nigeria in Glasgow.
Also speaking, NBF Vice President Omonlei Imadu reiterated the federation’s medal ambitions, noting that selection will be strictly merit-based.
Our goal remains clear, ten boxers, ten medals. The selection process has been restructured to ensure only the most deserving athletes make the final team. With the mandate given by the National Sports Commission, we are determined to present a team capable of delivering results,” Imadu stated.
Nigeria is expected to field 10 boxers at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 3 in Glasgow, Scotland.
