Manchester City have had several offers rejected by Paris Saint-Germain for Super Falcons midfielder Jennifer Echegini, with the French club determined to keep the Nigerian international despite her contract entering its final year, Trybal News reports.
The 25-year-old is regarded as an important member of the PSG squad, with the club unwilling to sanction her departure during the current transfer window.
Echegini, who spent most of her youth career in England, joined PSG two years ago after a season with Italian giants Juventus. She has since continued to develop her reputation at both club and international level.
The midfielder played a key role in Nigeria’s triumph at last year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scoring the winning goal against Morocco in the final as the Super Falcons secured a record-extending 10th continental title.
Manchester City’s interest comes as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new Women’s Super League season. The club will also be without experienced forward and midfielder Vivianne Miedema at the start of the campaign due to a knee injury.
City have until Thursday’s transfer deadline to complete a deal for Echegini, but PSG’s refusal to entertain their offers could prove a major obstacle.
PSG are preparing for their Women’s Champions League third-round qualifying clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday, with Echegini potentially set to remain part of the squad as the French club continues to resist Manchester City’s attempts to sign her.
