The loss saw Burkina Faso finish as Group B winners with seven points from three matches, while Nigeria progressed as runners-up with six points. Ghana and Togo played out a goalless draw in the other group fixture, leaving Ghana on two points and Togo bottom with one.

Burkina Faso took control of the contest in the first half, with Alassane Bagayogo opening the scoring before Mohamed Zongo doubled the advantage before the interval to give the Young Stallions a comfortable lead.

Despite trailing by two goals, the Flying Eagles struggled to mount a meaningful response after the break. Nigeria lacked urgency and creativity in possession, creating few clear-cut opportunities as Burkina Faso comfortably saw out the victory.

The result means defending champions Nigeria will now face tournament hosts Côte d’Ivoire in what promises to be the standout semi-final of the competition. Burkina Faso, meanwhile, will take on Niger in the other last-four encounter.

The stakes remain high, with both semi-final winners not only advancing to the WAFU B U20 Championship final but also securing qualification for the 2027 U20 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Ghana.

Nigeria will now need an improved performance against the Ivorians if they are to keep their hopes of defending the regional title alive and book their place at the continental championship.
