Super Eagles midfielder Christantus Uche has undergone successful surgery on his right knee after suffering a serious injury in Getafe’s pre-season clash with AS Monaco, Trybal News reports.

The 23-year-old was forced off on a stretcher during the August 6 friendly following a heavy challenge from Monaco defender Christian Mawissa. Subsequent examinations revealed significant damage involving multiple knee ligaments and the meniscus.
Getafe later confirmed the severity of the injury, ruling Uche out for the entire 2026/27 season, a major blow for the midfielder after returning to the Spanish club following a loan spell with Crystal Palace.
Uche made 23 appearances for the Premier League side last season, scoring twice, before returning to Getafe ahead of the new campaign.
The operation was carried out in Lyon, France, and was completed without complications. Uche has now entered the rehabilitation stage of his recovery as he begins what is expected to be a lengthy road back to competitive football.
The Nigerian midfielder took to social media to update supporters following the procedure, expressing his appreciation to the medical team, Getafe, his teammates, his representatives and everyone who offered support.
The surgery went as planned, and now a new phase of recovery begins.”
Uche also placed his faith in God as he prepared for the difficult rehabilitation process, adding that his focus would now be on patience, hard work and trusting the journey.
The injury represents not only a significant setback for Uche but also a concern for Nigeria. His prolonged absence could rule him out of the Super Eagles’ preparations and potentially several 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures.
For now, Uche’s priority is recovery. Getafe are expected to continue supporting the midfielder throughout his rehabilitation, with the ultimate objective of seeing him return to full fitness and competitive action.
After a difficult start to the season that never got underway for him, Uche has taken his first major step towards a comeback.
