Katsina United defender Chinedu Ozor has reportedly died after collapsing during a preseason friendly on Tuesday morning, Trybal News reports.
The incident occurred at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Kastina, according to eyewitness reports. Chinedu Ozor reportedly slumped on the pitch during the match, with early reports later claiming that he had passed away.
However, Katsina United have yet to officially confirm the defender’s reported death. The club has not released a statement on the incident as of the time of this report.
Ozor joined Katsina United, popularly known as the Chanji Boys, from North West rivals Kano Pillars last month. The towering centre back completed the move in July as the club strengthened its squad ahead of the new season.
Before joining Katsina United, Chinedu Ozor played a regular role for Kano Pillars. He became a consistent starter for the Sai Masu Gida during the second half of last season.
His reported death has therefore sent shockwaves through the Nigerian football community, particularly among supporters who watched his performances at Kano Pillars.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear. Reports indicate that Ozor collapsed during the preseason fixture, but further details about what happened after he left the pitch have not yet emerged.
Katsina United are expected to provide an official update on the situation. Until then, reports of Ozor’s death remain unconfirmed by the club.
The news comes as Nigerian clubs continue their preparations for the 2026/27 season through preseason competitions and friendly matches across the country.
