Mykhailo Mudryk has expressed his excitement after completing a season long loan move from Chelsea to Tottenham Hotspur on transfer deadline day, Trybal News reports.
The Ukrainian winger will spend the season at Spurs, who also have an option to make the transfer permanent for £75 million. Mudryk says he cannot wait to begin working with Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi again.
Tottenham completed the deal as part of a busy deadline day that also saw the club sign Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo permanently for £7m. The double swoop took Spurs summer spending close to £400m.
For Mudryk, the move offers a fresh opportunity after a difficult spell at Stamford Bridge. The 25 year old joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk for £62m in January 2023 but has struggled to establish himself in London.
His arrival at Tottenham also marks the first direct transfer between the two London clubs since goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini moved from Chelsea to Spurs in 2009.
Mykhailo Mudryk Excited to Reunite With De Zerbi
Mudryk previously worked with De Zerbi at Shakhtar Donetsk during the 2021 22 campaign. The winger believes that reunion played an important role in his decision to join Tottenham.
“It’s a great feeling,” he told Tottenham’s official website. “I can’t wait to start training and playing for the club, and I’m so excited to be reunited with Roberto De Zerbi.
“I’m a player who brings speed and creativity, and I want to help in both the offensive and defensive areas. I want to make the fans excited. I can see it’s a strong squad here with good players, and I’m looking forward to sharing a pitch and special moments with them.”
De Zerbi also welcomed the chance to work with Mudryk again. The Tottenham manager believes the winger can provide a major attacking threat when he reaches his best level.
“Having worked with Misha earlier in his career, I know exactly what he can bring to our team,” De Zerbi stated. “He has the quality to change a game with his speed and ability in one-vs-one situations, and is an exciting, attacking talent. I will demand a lot from Misha and it is our job to help him find the best version of himself. If we do that then he can become a very important player for us. I am very happy he chose to come here, and I cannot wait to work with him again.”
Tottenham turned to Mykhailo Mudryk after missing out on other attacking targets on deadline day. Spurs had attempted to sign Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo and Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye, but Ndiaye ultimately joined Manchester City.
The move gives Mudryk an important chance to restart his career and regain regular competitive football. He has not played competitively since November 2024 after an adverse urine sample led to an investigation over alleged doping violations.
Mudryk remained sidelined for around 20 months before the Football Association and World Anti Doping Agency resolved the matter. He received clearance to return in July, opening the door for his move to Tottenham.
The winger now hopes to put the difficult period behind him and make an immediate impact under De Zerbi. Tottenham, meanwhile, will expect his pace, creativity and one versus one ability to add another dimension to their attack.
Mudryk becomes Tottenham’s ninth and tenth summer acquisition alongside Tosin Adarabioyo, taking the club’s recruitment drive towards the £400m mark. Earlier arrivals included Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Savio.
For Mykhailo Mudryk, however, the focus is now simple. He wants to return to the pitch, enjoy his football again and help Tottenham compete for major honours under a manager who already knows his qualities.
