The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially opened the bidding process for the hosting rights of the 2028, 2032 and 2036 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Trybal News reports.
CAF announced that its Executive Committee has approved the launch of the bidding process, inviting Member Associations interested in hosting Africa’s flagship football tournament to submit their applications in accordance with the confederation’s hosting requirements.
As part of the process, prospective hosts must provide comprehensive bid documents, including government guarantees, infrastructure plans, security arrangements, accommodation and transport strategies, as well as financial and commercial commitments.
The opening of the bidding marks the beginning of CAF’s host selection process for the next three AFCON cycles, with inspection visits and technical evaluations expected to follow before the Executive Committee selects the successful host nations.
The 2028 edition will succeed the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
CAF has continued to place greater emphasis on infrastructure development and organizational capacity in selecting tournament hosts, with the expanded bidding process aimed at ensuring future editions of Africa’s premier football competition meet the highest international standards.
Member Associations interested in hosting any of the three tournaments are expected to follow CAF’s established bidding procedures and timelines before the confederation announces the successful hosts.
