Super Eagles striker Akor Adams made an immediate impact on his competitive debut for Venezia, scoring twice and providing an assist as the Italian side came from behind to defeat Modena 3-2 in the Coppa Italia on Saturday, Trybal News reports.
Adams, who joined Venezia permanently from Sevilla this summer, marked his first competitive appearance for the club with a decisive individual performance at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo.
Modena took the lead in the 17th minute through Giuseppe Ambrosino, but Adams quickly restored parity, finding the net in the 26th minute to make it 1-1.
Ambrosino struck again before half-time to give Modena a 2-1 advantage, leaving Venezia facing a difficult second half.
The Nigerian international, however, played a central role in Venezia’s late comeback.
With seven minutes remaining, Adams provided the assist for John Yeboah to level the contest at 2-2. Just two minutes later, the striker completed the turnaround himself, scoring in the 85th minute to put Venezia ahead for the first time.
Venezia held on to secure a 3-2 victory and advance to the next round of the Coppa Italia.
The performance represents an outstanding start to Adams’ Venezia career. His contribution was not limited to his two goals, with the forward directly involved in all three of his side’s goals.
Adams joined Venezia on a contract running until June 2030 after spells with Sogndal, Lillestrøm, Montpellier and Sevilla. He arrives in Venice with considerable expectations as the club prepares for its return to Serie A.
For the Super Eagles, the performance will also be encouraging as Adams continues to establish himself at international level.
