Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare is on the verge of joining Dutch giants Ajax from Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan, with the Eredivisie club closing in on an agreement that includes an option to make the deal permanent, Trybal News reports.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that Ajax have made the Nigerian international their priority striker and have already reached a club-to-club agreement with Wolves.
“Ajax are closing in on deal to sign Tolu Arokodare as new striker from Wolves!
Club to club agreement done on loan with buy option for package slightly over €20m.
Ajax wanted Tolu as priority, club sources confirm — now working on final details.”
Romano later provided further details of the proposed move, confirming that Ajax will cover the striker’s full salary during the loan spell.
“More on Tolu Arokodare to Ajax exclusive story:
Loan with salary fully covered by Ajax, €22m buy option clause not mandatory. Loan fee also included.
Wolves to receive bonuses based on Ajax qualification for European competitions.”
The latest development comes just days after Arokodare publicly dismissed reports claiming he disrupted a Wolves training session to force through a transfer.
The 25-year-old was left out of Wolves’ squad for their preseason friendly against Maidenhead United. Earlier reports from BBC Sport alleged that the striker sat down on the training pitch during a session and demanded the club allow him to leave for Serie A side Fiorentina.
Arokodare swiftly rejected those claims in a statement posted on his Instagram page.
“I was very surprised and disappointed to see the media reports today, many of which are inaccurate.
“Throughout my career, I have always taken great pride in conducting myself professionally and maintaining the highest training standards. My commitment has always been to prepare myself as well as possible so that I can contribute to my teammates and the club whenever I am called upon.
“I remain under contract with Wolves, and my only intention is to fulfil my responsibilities professionally by training, doing my job, and contributing to the team in accordance with that contract.”

The striker has struggled to make a major impact since arriving at Wolves from Belgian side Genk last summer in a £24 million transfer. He scored six goals in 38 appearances across all competitions during his debut campaign.
His league return was even more modest, with just three goals during a difficult Premier League season that ended with Wolves finishing bottom of the table and suffering relegation to the Championship.
The uncertainty surrounding Arokodare’s future now presents an early challenge for new Wolves manager Cesar Peixoto, who replaced Rob Edwards in June. With the Championship season approaching, the Portuguese coach must prepare for life without one of his senior forwards if Ajax complete the deal.
For Ajax, Arokodare’s arrival would strengthen their attacking options as they continue rebuilding their squad ahead of the new campaign, with the Nigerian now just finalising the remaining details before the move is completed.
