The Nigerian swimmer finished sixth in Semi-final 2 with a time of 22.44 seconds, capping a breakthrough performance that saw him become the country’s only swimmer to reach the semi-finals of the competition.

Adama held his own against a world-class field led by Australia’s Jamie Jack, who topped the race in 21.55 seconds. Canada’s Joshua Liendo followed in 21.61 seconds, while Australia’s Flynn Southam secured third in 21.86 seconds. Singapore’s Mikkel Jun Jie Lee (22.25s) and the Bahamas’ Lamar Taylor (22.30s) claimed the remaining qualifying positions ahead of the Nigerian.

Although he missed out on the final, Adama’s performances throughout the Games marked a significant step forward for Nigerian swimming. Earlier on Saturday, he advanced from the heats to the last 16, becoming the only Nigerian to progress after teammate Clinton Opute exited in the preliminary round.

The result adds another milestone to the career of the African junior record holder, whose displays in Glasgow reinforced his reputation as one of Nigeria’s most promising swimmers. Competing against some of the fastest sprint specialists in the Commonwealth, Adama demonstrated both composure and potential, offering optimism for the future of the sport in the country.

His semi-final appearance also represents one of Nigeria’s strongest swimming performances at the Commonwealth Games in recent years and highlights the gradual progress being made in a discipline traditionally dominated by established swimming nations.

While his medal quest ended in the semi-finals, Adama leaves Glasgow with valuable experience and renewed confidence, having shown that Nigerian swimmers can compete at a high level on the international stage. His achievement adds another positive storyline to Team Nigeria’s campaign, which has already produced outstanding success in para powerlifting and other events.
