The Nigerian sprint hurdler, who arrived in Glasgow aiming to secure an unprecedented third consecutive Commonwealth title, crossed the finish line in 12.60 seconds to claim bronze behind a fast-finishing field.

The Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton produced a commanding performance to win gold in 12.33 seconds, while Jamaica’s Megan Simmonds claimed silver with a time of 12.41 seconds.

Amusan had appeared to be the overwhelming favourite after an outstanding performance in the heats, where she clocked a wind-assisted 12.19 seconds, the fastest time ever recorded at the Commonwealth Games under any conditions. However, she was unable to replicate that pace in the final as Charlton ended the Nigerian’s dominance of the event.

The bronze medal marks the end of Amusan’s bid to become a three-time consecutive Commonwealth champion, having previously won gold at the Birmingham 2022 and Gold Coast 2018 Games.

Despite missing out on another title, the world-class hurdler once again delivered a podium finish for Team Nigeria, adding another medal to the nation’s growing tally in Glasgow and reinforcing her consistency on one of athletics’ biggest stages.
