Tunisia have dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi following their humiliating 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Trybal News reports.

The Tunisian Football Federation moved swiftly after the heavy loss, bringing an end to Lamouchi’s tenure amid growing pressure from supporters and officials concerned by the team’s performance on the global stage.

The Carthage Eagles were comprehensively outplayed by Sweden, conceding five goals in a World Cup match for the first time in their history. The defeat leaves Tunisia rooted to the bottom of Group F and facing a difficult task to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout rounds alive.

Reports in Tunisia indicated that federation officials held emergency discussions shortly after the match, with the decision eventually taken to part ways with the former Ivory Coast international.

Lamouchi had been tasked with guiding Tunisia through a challenging group but paid the price for a disastrous start to the tournament, becoming one of the first managerial casualties of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Attention will now turn to the appointment of an interim coach ahead of Tunisia’s next fixture against Japan. The North Africans know that another defeat could all but end their chances of progressing beyond the group stage.

The federation is expected to announce a replacement in the coming days as the Carthage Eagles attempt to salvage their World Cup campaign and restore confidence among their supporters.
