Super Eagles defender Ola Aina was in action for the entire match as Nottingham Forest were beaten 3-1 by Leeds United in a crucial Premier League encounter at Elland Road on Friday night.
The defeat leaves Forest looking over their shoulders in the relegation battle, while Leeds climbed nine points clear of danger after a dominant performance.
Leeds seized control of the contest during a damaging spell in the first half, scoring twice in quick succession through Jayden Bogle and Noah Okafor after both sides began the night level on points just above the drop zone. Dominic Calvert-Lewin added a third early in the second half with his 10th league goal of the season to cap a commanding display from the hosts.
Forest found it difficult to cope with Leeds intensity for much of the game and were largely second best, despite creating a few opportunities of their own. Substitute Lorenzo Lucca grabbed a late consolation on his debut, but it proved insufficient to alter the outcome.
Operating from left back, Aina put in a full shift across 90 minutes, finishing with five clearances and four recoveries while also contributing going forward with two shots. The Nigerian completed 23 of his 30 passes and recorded 60 touches in what turned into a demanding defensive assignment for the visitors.
The loss marked Forest’s 13th of the campaign and keeps them only six points above the relegation zone, underlining the importance of their upcoming fixtures. Meanwhile, Leeds victory could prove pivotal in their survival push as momentum continues to build at a critical stage of the season.
