Nigeria’s Super Falcons will aim to secure their place in the third round of the African qualifiers for the 2028 Olympic Games when they face Comoros in the second leg of their second-round tie today, Trybal News reports.

The 10-time African champions hold a 2-0 advantage after defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu scored in the first leg on Friday at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.

Interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side are seeking a second consecutive appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament after returning to the competition at Paris 2024, ending a 16-year absence.

Despite dominating much of the opening encounter, Nigeria had to wait until the second half to break down a resilient Comoros defence. Alozie opened the scoring shortly after the restart before Kanu doubled the advantage around the hour mark.

The return fixture will also take place at the Remo Stars Stadium, with Comoros unable to host international matches at home because the country lacks a Confederation of African Football (CAF)-approved venue.

The arrangement presents Eguavoen and his technical crew with an opportunity to assess other players while maintaining Nigeria’s advantage in the tie.

Young goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma could be considered for a starting role, while defenders Farida Abdulwahab and Tumininu Adeshina are among the available options.

Midfielder Suliat Abideen also impressed after coming on in the second half of Friday’s encounter and could be rewarded with a place in the starting lineup.

In attack, former Nigeria U-17 captain Shakirat Moshood and Folashade Ijamilusi are among the alternatives available to the coaching crew. Belarus-based duo Blessing Nkor and Blessing Okpe, alongside Sweden-based forward Joy Omewa, also provide further attacking options.

Nigeria will advance to the third round if they successfully negotiate the two-legged tie, where they are scheduled to face Morocco or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the next stage of the qualifying competition.

The third-round fixtures are scheduled for February 23 to March 6, 2027, as the Super Falcons continue their pursuit of one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
