Edo Queens have wasted no time reminding West Africa of their ambitions, launching their WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifying campaign with a ruthless 7-0 victory over Nigerien side AS Garde Nationale in Ouagadougou, Trybal News reports.
The Nigerian champions set the tone from the opening minutes, with Chioma Moses finding the breakthrough in the fifth minute. Rather than sit on their advantage, Edo Queens continued to control proceedings and were rewarded again just before the interval when Moses converted a penalty to put them two goals ahead.
The second half became a one-sided affair.
Atume Doosuur struck shortly after the restart to extend the lead before adding another in the 56th minute. Aminat Folorunsho joined the scoring six minutes later, leaving Edo Queens firmly in command.
Moses then completed her hat-trick in the 76th minute, putting the finishing touch to an impressive individual display, while Oluwakemi Adegbuyi added a seventh deep into stoppage time.
It was a performance that combined efficiency in front of goal with sustained attacking pressure, giving Edo Queens the perfect start to their latest continental adventure.
Moses was subsequently recognised as the standout player of the match after her three-goal contribution.
The result will also strengthen confidence within a side that already knows what it takes to navigate the WAFU-B route. Edo Queens won the regional qualifying tournament in 2024 on their debut before going on to finish fourth at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Their immediate focus now shifts to ASEC Mimosas, whom they face on August 27. Ampem Darkoa Ladies of Ghana await in their final Group B fixture on August 30.
For now, though, Edo Queens have delivered the loudest opening statement of the tournament and their seven-goal margin suggests the Nigerian champions have arrived with serious intentions.
