Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola has backed the 2026 Abeokuta 10KM Race and confirmed he will attend the event on 3 October, Trybal News reports.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, gave the assurance during a meeting with Nilayo Sports Management Limited managing director Yetunde Olopade.
Olopade paid the senator a courtesy visit to formally invite him to the race, which the organisers will hold in his honour.
Adeola also praised Olopade for taking over the leadership of Nilayo Sports Management Limited. He said he was pleased with the progress and achievements recorded by the company under her leadership.
The senator said he appreciated the decision to honour him with the race. Despite his busy schedule, he promised to make every effort to attend.
“Let me start by thanking you for taking up the mantle of leadership of the company. I was truly delighted when I learnt that you are the one in charge.
“As for the race, I want to sincerely thank you for organising it in my honour. You have honoured me, and I appreciate the gesture with every sense of responsibility.
“I will do everything humanly possible to be part of it, especially because it is a race held in my honour. I will also be glad to be there to honour you in return.”

Yetunde Olopade presented Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola with a running kit during the visit. She said the race would recognise his contributions to youth and sports development in Ogun State.
“For everything you have done for youth and sports development, we have come to invite you to support the race. Of course, we also humbly request your presence on the 3rd of October.”
The 2026 Abeokuta 10KM Race will focus specifically on Nigerian athletes. The organisers aim to promote homegrown talent and create a lasting legacy for road running in the country.
Registration remains open at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto, Abeokuta. Registered athletes will collect their race kits from 30th of September to 2nd of October 2026.
The race will take place on 3rd of October 2026 and will mark the fifth edition of the event.
The Abeokuta 10KM Race has become a notable event on Nigeria’s athletics calendar. This year’s edition is expected to attract athletes, sports enthusiasts and other stakeholders from across the country.
